A common myth surrounding alcohol spirits made from grains is that during the distilling processes all traces of grains are removed, so they are are safe for Coeliacs, NCGS and autoimmune disease sufferers to consume. This is not true! Which is why many people react to spirits derived from grains such as gin, whiskey and vodka (grain derived). Thats not to mention ‘gluten free’ beer, which is still made from barley, so still contains trace amounts of gluten. The following list contains the safe alcohols you can safely consume: 

Please check individual manufacturers to be on the safe side.

Safe alcohol list: 

Absinthe – Only if made from wormwood or other plants.

Champagne – Double filtered.

Brandy – Only if it is distilled from fruit.

Cider – If no barley has been added during processing.

Grappa – Naturally made from grapes.

Mead – Made from fermented honey.

Ouzo – Traditional aniseed drink.

Raki – Made from grapes and raisins.

Rum – Plain white rum only.

Schnapps – Only if fermented from fruit.

Sambuca – If distilled purely from plants.

Tequila – Made from the blue agave plant.

Vodka – Only if made from potatoes or grapes.

Wine – Non sulphite, organic, gluten free and vegan.

That completes the grain free and dairy free safe alcohol list. Please double check with manufacturers if in doubt.
